the mystery is solved!

We have been trying to figure out why we have to put a "2" on the back of the envelope. Thanks to Grandpa George Yates the mystery is solved:

The 2 on the back of the envelope just helps them sort the mail faster at the company level. The 2 is the same as in his address (2nd platoon). They usally have 3or 4 big boxes in the company clerks office that they sort the mail into. The clerk gets all the mail for the company and then he has to sort it to which platoon it goes to. It's a lot faster if he just has to put all the 2s in the 2 box (or 1 s etc) rather than read everyones crappy handwriting in the long address on the front. Just an old soldier trying to help!!!
