Nic called!

Nic called tonight and we talked for 8:31!! It was the best feeling in the world to hear his voice. That's the longest I have gone without contact with him and it was very hard. Today is the first day I have not bawled most of the day. He sounded really good but very tired. I asked him if he felt this was the right choice and he said, "oh ya!!". Here are some things he has gone through this week:

Tuesday: 4am-5:30pm Processing Center, SLC
Wednesday: 5am picked up from hotel and taken to airport, 8am flight leaves (flew to Cinncinati, then to S. C.), 2:30pm Nic arrives in S.C., called to tell us he had made it.
Nic said the Drill Sgts. kept them up til 4am. I asked him what they were doing and he said yelling at them. They let them sleep 20 minutes and woke them for the day.
Thursday: "that was a shi### day"!! was Nic's comment. Not sure what they did, but they were tired for sure.
Friday: He got his uniforms and a hair cut. It was really short when he left but he says they shaved it. He also got his TB test. Tomorrow he gets his shots and dog tags.

He said Tuesday he will leave for base, which I am guessing is basic training. I asked him where that was and he said about 10 minutes away.
He said he is really glad he has the phone calling card from grandma Debbie (thanks!).

Alex and Nic went to Benihanas in SLC to celebrate their "last civilian meal". A nice family of four sat at their table. After dinner, when the checks came, the man insisted on paying Nic and Alex' to thank them for serving their country! Nic was speechless.
I am sure the man has no idea the impact he made on these two young men. What an amazing person.

Nic was supposed to be picked up around 3:00. The two army men were delayed and arrived a little after 7:00pm...after 4 hours of impatiently waiting. He spent the night in Salt Lake. Tuesday morning he went to the MPS (military processing center?) from 4am-5:30pm.

Thanks

I really appreciate all of the support Nic and our family has recieved since he joined the army. It has been wonderful to see how many close friends and family we have. A lot of people came to the open house for Nic and Alex and it really touched our hearts.
Thank you for all of the wonderful words of encouragement. Nic is an outstanding young man with a big heart and we know he will do great things.
